Dubai tram opening represents another step on a momentous journey

Dubai became the first city in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to launch a tram service. The tram was inaugurated by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, from Al Sufouh depot, who travelled in the tram with senior government officials.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA, briefed Sheikh Hamdan on Dubai Tram project at a glittering ceremony held on Tuesday, 11th of November, 2014 evening. Served by 11 stations, the 10.6km network winds through the densely populated areas of Al Sufouh, Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence while also serving Dubai Media City, Knowledge Village and Palm Jumeirah. All stations are installed with the 24x7 Direct Alarm System from Dubai Civil Defence to provide around the clock safety and assurance.

    The 24x7 Command Control Center has captured more than 5,174 real life safety alarms since the time of its inception. The Command Control Center has played a vital role in capturing and preventing fire and life safety incidents in Dubai. Statistics show steady reduction in serious incidents in Dubai owing to faster response and timely maintenance of life and safety systems. Since August 2008 until 31st October 2014, there are more than 45,653 assets subscribed and 38,721 assets connected to 24x7 Direct Alarm System.
