Introduction – 24x7 Dubai Civil Defence

In 2008, Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) initiated a life safety program in Dubai by implementing the 24x7 Direct Alarm System through a central Command Control Center. Under this program, private and government buildings are being connected and monitored for fire, lift safety, and emergency alarms using state-of-the-art M2M technology. The 24x7 Direct Alarm System connects a building's fire alarm and fire fighting systems to the DCD Monitoring Network for prompt action. The system has been a tremendous success, reducing the number of life safety accidents in Dubai year on year. Its deployment has streamlined the fire alarm monitoring and information transmission path to the DCD dispatch centre, allowing the fire service to focus more on fire prevention and timely emergency response.

Reduced number of serious incidents

Ensuring the wellbeing of citizens has always been a focus for Dubai Civil Defence (DCD). The setting up of the state-of-the-art Command Control Center has been instrumental in helping DCD avert many life threatening incidents. The 24x7 Command Control Center has captured more than 3935 real life safety alarms since the time of its inception. The Command Control Center has played a vital role in capturing and preventing fire and life safety incidents in Dubai. Statistics show steady reduction in serious incidents in Dubai owing to faster response and timely maintenance of life and safety systems. Until 31st December 2013, 52,858 assets have been subscribed to the Direct Alarm System. The overall number of fire accidents has declined from 631 in 2007, before the system was launched, to 290 in 2011.
